WESTERN BUREAU:

There was no elevated usage of marijuana on the grounds of the Aqueduct at Rose Hall in Montego Bay last Saturday night, yet the vibes reached fever pitch at the inaugural High Vibes Roots and Reggae concert.

New to the Second City's event calendar, High Vibes was paired with the thought-provoking inaugural CANEX Jamaica Conference, delivering hope for entertainment in the tourism capital.

Held on the eve of 'September mawnin', the event received a fair number of tourists from the various hotels surrounding the venue.

High Vibes organiser Shoibe Shaffee, said it was a strategic move to get the visitors out of the confines of their hotels.

Headlined by the ultimate performer, Beenie Man; the indomitable Ky-Mani Marley - one of the best singers in the Marley clan; rapper Rick Ross; and the veteran, Lee Scratch Perry, High Vibes was a welcome addition to a city constantly clamouring for live entertainment.

Again, Beenie Man proved he was in a class by himself. Ky-Mani Marley had Montegonian Karen Ffrench in a trance, dancing to the man she says is her favourite artiste; while Rick Ross had a dancehall crowd that came specifically to hear him rap 'til the early morning hours.

High Vibes has immense potential in changing the entertainment landscape in the west. Paired with CANEX, the two could easily become 'The Force'.
