An array of exquisite home decor, gorgeous garden designs and healthy lifestyle habits were etched in the minds of many who attended the first day of the Health, Home and Garden (HHG) Expo last Friday at the National Arena. This the 11th staging, the expo boasted nearly 200 booths, an art and craft village, children's village, a small business centre, 'health' streets, and decorating and gardening workshops.

Fay Wint, coordinator of the expo, told Today that the aim of the show is to heighten, in Jamaica, the awareness of the importance of living well.

"Health, home, and garden that's life and is important. So, the show is here to promote that," said Wint.

 

Most Impressive Expo

 

The expo offered patrons the opportunity to explore several unique offerings from both local and international enterprises. BH Paints, Ever Grow, Kirk Distributors, Courts and GraceKennedy were some of the companies represented.

Some booths such as the one by Ashley Furniture Home Store, inspired patrons to put a little oomph in their style with beautiful interior home decorations, ranging from vintage casual to urbanity, traditional and contemporary.

Wint said that she has never been so impressed with the fair. "I think this is actually the best we have ever had. There was no question that could have been asked that couldn't't be answered. The displays keep getting better each time, and I am really happy to see what has happened this year," she stated proudly.

Throngs of children from across the island and parents alike strolled through the arena eager to have an enjoyable experience.

Children were kept entertained with fun activities and staged performances created especially for them. "It is a pleasure to have them (children)," said Wint. "It is important that children are exposed to this very early to know about good living.

"By that I don't mean a lot of money, but the difference a plant can make to them and the importance of their health and environment.

We had so many activities for them ... and they enjoyed that," Wint said.

In the evening, the most important aspect of the day the after-work chill spot dubbed 'Mingling on the Mezzanine', came to life. It featured drinks, finger foods, domino and card games and numerous other activities. They were also treated to a concert with the Profile Band.
