KINGSTON:

After facing disappointment in recent years, former champions Milex Eagles mounted a textbook comeback to win the 2015 KPMG Squash League in decisive fashion.

The Eagles swept first-time entrants Mande Villains 3-0 in the final, which was held at the Liguanea Club in New Kingston over the weekend.

From the start, the Eagles came out fighting, when All-Jamaica Under-17 champion Tahjia Lumley beat Steve Mullings 21-15, 21-18, 21-15. With the win, Lumley not only gave the Eagles the lead, but also finished the tournament undefeated.

With the Eagles up 1-0, it fell to the Mande Villains' star player, two-time All Jamaica women's champion Alyssa Mullings, to even up the score. However, she was up against the in-form Jaime Douglas, who beat her 21-17, 21-17, 21-17 to propel the Eagles back to the winning circle for the first time since 2012.

Although the title was safely in the bag, Shane Slater waged an epic battle to beat Dominic Cover 14-21, 21-18, 21-12, 9-21, 21-17 and complete the sweep for the Milex Eagles.

Third place went to the Screaming Eagles, who beat the UTech Saints 3-0, while All-Jamaica Under-15 champion Adam Ardito, won the award for Most Improved Player.

"Overall we were very impressed with the standard of play and the camaraderie among the players, who could play each other so hard and still walk away as friends," said Tarun Handa, managing partner for KPMG in Jamaica.

Handa also pledged KPMG's continuing support for the tournament.

"We will definitely be back next year, and we look forward to an extended and expanded tournament."
