Two Jamaicans are safely through to the semi-finals of the women’s 400m hurdles at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro Brazil.
They are Ristananna Tracy, who easily won her opening round heat in a time of 54.88 seconds and Janieve Russell, who finished second in her first round heat in a time of 56.13 seconds.
The other Jamaican to contest the event, Leah Nugent finished second in her opening round heat, but was disqualified shortly after for a hurdling violation.
Russell, another of the first-time Olympians in the Jamaican team, explained that her plan was to conserve energy and make it safely through to the next round.
The semi-final of the women’s 400m hurdles is scheduled for tomorrow at 7:10 p.m.
