FAVOURITES dominated two of three feature races yesterday, while the 1300-metre New Year's Day Trophy was won by 5-2 chance DILIGENT, trained by Patrick Lynch, who had five winners on last week's Boxing Day programme.
DILIGENT stormed through on the inside a half-furlong out to go by Anthony Nunes' 13-1 outsider, MUSKETOON, whose stablemate, 3-5 favourite API, flattened in the stretch run and weakened out of contention.
The five-year-old grey gelding handed apprentice Oneil Scott back-to-back winners on the 10-race card following his nail-biting victory astride WILLODEEN in the second event.
Meanwhile, the day's co-features were predictably won by MONEY-NEVERSLEEP and AWESOME DESTINY but in contrasting fashion.
