Big changes coming for football - Infantino targets winter window and eyes salary cap
French publication L'Equipe is reporting that FIFA president Gianni Infantino is planning to make major changes, including a discontinuation of the January transfer market, limiting loans, and an introduction of a salary cap.
L'Equipe further reported that the most powerful man in world football will present an 11-point plan, which will be discussed by the committee on February 28.
It is believed the plans include removing the January transfer window and limiting the market so that it doesn't overlap with competitive matches.
This was a proposal put forward by the English Premier League and certain Serie A clubs, who feel it is too distracting.
"It is important to include certain rules, such as limiting the number of players a club can own and loan out," said Infantino.
A salary cap could also be introduced, as Infantino is said to be concerned by the of that.
"We must protect the values that made football what it is," Infantino noted.
In a similar vein, commissions paid to agents and intermediaries may also be slashed under the new direction.
