Alligator Pond drop points but still lead

The return phase of the Mikael Phillips-sponsored Manchester Major League began earlier this week with Alligator Pond dropping points for the first time but still keeping their lead atop the seven-team standings.

In a frenetic first half in which four goals were scored, the top-of-the-table clash between Alligator Pond and Los Perfectos ended 2-2. Alligator Pond, who beat Los P 1-0 in the season opener in February, jumped to a 2-0 lead after Oshane Nelson (15th) and Ceraly Evans (36th) scored.

However, Los P responded dramatically with Christopher Campbell netting a brace in the 38th and 39th minutes of play to shock the spectators on hand. The second half, however, failed to provide the spark of the first.

In another result this week, Mile Gully hit double figures in the standings after Kamoy Wright's goal gave them a 1-0 win over Villa.

The result means that Alligator Pond maintained their three-point lead on 19, followed by Los P on 16 and Mile Gully third on 11 points.

Black Stars beaten, but St Elizabeth teams roll on

Both leaders of the respective preliminary rounds were beaten but it did little to affect their passage to the semifinals of the Charley's/JB Rum South Central Super League.

Black Stars were beaten for the first time, going down 2-0 to Tru-Juice, as Gregory Gale netted a first half brace. However, the St Elizabeth side still maintained a six-point lead going into the penultimate phase of the return round.

In another match, the leaders of Zone Two, St Bess FC, also of St Elizabeth, were beaten 2-1 by Dunbeholden of St Catherine. Nonetheless, St Bess lead the charge with a six-point lead over another St Elizabeth-based team, Holland Police Youth Club (PYC). They proved the only St Elizabeth side to win, knocking over relegation-bound Sporting Central Academy of Clarendon 4-0.

The race towards the semi-finals only remains tight in Zone One, where Old Harbour Bay FC and Vere United are in a keen battle to land the second spot behind Black Stars. Both are on 26 points with Old Harbour Bay FC having a superior goal difference. Tru-Juice, who are three points behind, have a slim mathematical chance of sneaking in.

Treadlight turn up heat in Clarendon Major League

Treadlight extended their lead in the 2018 Clarendon Football Association's Major League to five points after cooling Morgan's Pass 3-2 in the feature game last weekend. They have now won six of their eight games so far, with a big plus-14 goal difference. This far exceeds the nearest challenger, Morgan's Pass, with positive four. The rest of the zone is, however, unimpressive. Both Sporting Central and Woodhall are six points back on nine, followed by struggling Bucknor on seven and Original Hazard on four.

Zone Two is far more competitive, with fewer points mined as only two teams Savannah Cross and Young Strikers, have scored four wins from their eight games so far. Savannah Cross lead on 15 points, followed by Young Strikers on 13 and Longsville Park on 12. Comfort FC is on nine followed by the pair of Kemps Hill and New Bowens on eight.

Treadlight's Rascianie Mitchell currently leads the goalscoring charts with seven, with teammate Deno Bryan on six. They are followed by the Morgan's Pass pair of Duchane Campbell and Dafari Lee on five each. Jermaine Williams of Woodhall has four.

Central lead weekend charge in Manchester Division One

Four games will be played this weekend in the Manchester FA/Jamalco Division One competition.

Central United, who started the season with 5-3 win over Hope Village and a 3-0 effort against May Day, will play Mandeville United at the Inverness field tomorrow.

However, the biggest clash of the day comes at the Porus Community Centre where Studs and Mandeville United meet in a battle of teams who have won just one game so far. This game will be played at 1 p.m. as it serves as the curtain-raiser to the South Central Super League matchup between home side Porus and visiting Tru-Juice of St Catherine.

Two other games will be played today. New Green FC oppose Silent Hill at the Greenvale Community Centre at 3:30 p.m. while Starz Academy entertain Hope Village at the Porus Community Centre.

Jamalco start with a bang

Jamalco's netballers are back in the familiar role of champions after dominating the Jamalco-sponsored Open rally which signalled the opening of the 2018 season of the Clarendon Netball Association.

Jamalco played unbeaten throughout to land the opening rally 10-3 in fading light over Hayes last weekend at the Mineral Heights Roundabout Complex. Eight teams made it to the knockout phase - Jamalco, Holmwood A, Holmwood B, Team R from Mandeville, May Day High, also of Mandeville, Hayes, Central High, and Denbigh High.

In the quarter-finals, Jamalco knocked off Team R, May Day edged Holmwood B 5-3, Hayes whipped Central High 10-3, while Holmwood A got the better of Denbigh 8-5.

In the semi-finals, Jamalco overpowered Holmwood A 13-2, while Hayes proved too good for Central High 8-2.

The competition will now take a break and resume with the Open league on Sunday, April 8 in Mineral Heights.
