Jamaica Football Federation President Michael Ricketts says that Jamaica's football programme should concentrate on youth development in order to get back to the World Cup.

Ricketts was speaking at the first of four RJRGLEANER Communications Group Town Hall meetings at the Sports Lounge at 100.

He says that since he was voted in as boss of Jamaica's football, he has made moves to bring the youth programmes into focus, in order to get to the World Cup.

"We have the youth programme that is being reorganised right now. I have presented to the FIFA representative for this region, our plans for the youth and they have bought in on the idea," Ricketts said.

Carvel Stewart, vice president of KSAFA, supported Ricketts' stance, stating that Jamaica's qualification to the 1998 World Cup was an anomaly.

“The problem (of not being able to qualify for another World Cup) will continue if we do not see that that was an anomaly," Stewart said.

“We have not done what is necessary to qualify for World Cup. We still have not put in place the technical programme that starts development," Stewart said.
