Dunbeholden to contest National Premier League play-offs

Dunbeholden of St Catherine will represent the South Central Confed in the JFF's National Premier League play-offs after they defeated St Elizabeth's St Bess 3-1 at the St Elizabeth Technical High School Sports Complex to win the 2018 Charley's JB Rum South Central Confed Super League title.

Lorenzo Dubidad gave the visitors the lead when he scored in the first minute to silence the St Elizabeth fans. Horace McKnight then provided more shock waves, making it 2-0 in the 17th minute. Some hope was injected into the home fans when semi-final hero Nacquain Brown reduced the deficit to 2-1 three minutes to half-time.

The title was virtually sealed in the 79th minute when Raheem Small made it 3-1, a score that was maintained to the final whistle.

In the trip to the final, St Bess had outscored Vere United of Clarendon 6-3 for a 7-4 aggregate win, while in an amazing result, Dunbeholden crushed Blackstars 5-0 for a 6-1 aggregate score.

Los Perfectos, Alligator Pond in Manchester Major League final

Los Perfectos and Alligator Pond will contest the final of the Mikael Phillips-sponsored Manchester Major League tomorrow at the Manchester High playfield. Match time is 3:45 p.m.

The final will be preceded by the third-place play-off between Mile Gully and Villa United at 1:45 p.m.

In their road to the final, Los Perfectos easily ran away 2-0 winners over Villa at Kirkvine Sports Club. The winners' goals came from Ray Campbell in the 35th and Mushalee Dunkley in the 50th.

Alligator Pond advanced after Mile Gully were sanctioned for using an ineligible player in a previous game. Mile Gully were booted from the final three days after they produced a 2-1 win against the team that topped the preliminary round, Alligator Pond.

Starz Academy set U-17 Manchester scoring record

A new record for goals scored in a single match was established in the 2018 Moorland Development-sponsored Pat Anderson Under-17 football competition when Starz Academy slammed in 21 goals against Hope Village. It beat the 20 Downs delivered on Mandeville United two weeks ago.

Leading the onslaught were Andre Dove and Shemar Bartley, who scored four goals each, while there were hat-tricks for Tyrese Henry and Jermaine Muirhead. Starz Academy also picked up another three points this week in narrowly outscoring Villa United 3-2. They have now collected three wins from as many matches and are on top of Zone Two, with a better goal difference over Villa United, who have played one more game.

In other results from this week, Belair slammed Hope Village 6-0, while 360 Degrees Youth Football Academy and Hillstars drew 1-1.

The Zones also make for interesting assessment as the teams get ready to secure the eight spots in the knockout phase. Zone One is currently led by 360 Degrees, who have eight points. The next two teams - Hillstars and Comfort - are on seven points each.

Zone Three is led by Downs, with 13 points from five games, who at this stage are the only team to have secured qualification to the next round. Greenvale Academy have nine points, followed by Manchester Academy with six.

New Green, Central United in Jamalco Division One final

Former Major League champions New Green and Central United have earned the right to contest the final of the Jamalco-sponsored Manchester Division One for community-based teams.

New Green proved no match for Hope Village when they easily outscored them 5-2, while Central were made to work harder against the NCU President's XI for 3-2.

New Green's place in the final was virtually settled in the first half when two strikes from Owen Whyte and Ryan Simpson helped them secure a 3-1 lead. Marlon Brown's 19th-minute strike, along with one in the 58th minute by Christopher Richards, kept Hope Village competitive. However, with Lorenzo Carter and Mikel Howell securing second-half strikes, New Green's advantage was never troubled.

The Central-versus-NCU semi-final was an even contest at the end of the first half, which ended 1-1. Kemar Green gave Central the lead as early as the second minute, but Matthew Jackson equalised in the 32nd minute. However, the game swung Central's way when Green got his second of the match in the 52nd minute.

It was 3-1 when Jordon Watson scored in the 72nd minute. Jerome May gave NCU a last ray of hope by cutting the deficit to one by scoring in the 80th minute.

Call for stadium in honour of Patrick Anderson

Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) President Dr Warren Blake has urged important stakeholders to come together to erect a synthetic athletic track at Kirkvine and name it in honour of former sports administrator Patrick Anderson.

Anderson, who is iconic for serving as president of the two of the most powerful sports organisations in Jamaica - the Jamaica Football Federation and the JAAA, was remembered positively during a thanksgiving service for his life at the Kendal Conference Centre last Saturday.

Almost every influential sports person or major administrator was present and provided with an opportunity to speak of Anderson from his boyhood days in Kingston, his association and development with Boys' Town and his sojourn to Manchester to work for ALCAN to his rise as an administrator at the parish and national levels.

JFF President Michael Ricketts, Jamaica Cricket Association President Billy Heaven, former president and Boys' Town stalwart Lyndel Wright, and Dr Paul Auden remembered Anderson as a selfless administrator who cared for and invested in young sportsmen and sportswomen who showed potential.
