Jamaica in squash quarterfinals at CAC

Jamaica's men's squash team has advanced to the quarterfinals of the competition at the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games (CAC) in Barranquilla, Colombia.

The team had mixed results yesterday. In early action they were blanked 3-0 by hosts Colombia but returned yesterday afternoon to defeat Panama by the same margin. Chris Binnie won 3-0 and Lewis Walters 3-0 while Bruce Burrowes got a walkover.

Jamaica will play Guyana at 11 a.m. today.

Earlier in women's field hockey, Jamaica's women were clipped 1-0 by Trinidad and Tobago in Pool B action. Shaniah Defrietas scored for Trinidad in the 34th minute.

Trinidad headed the section with maximum nine points ahead of Barbados on six and Jamaica, three. Mexico topped Pool A, also with maximum nine points. Jamaica will face the fourth place team from Pool A to decide their final position.

In women's basketball Jamaica were beaten 76-61 by the United States Virgin Islands in the playoff for fifth and sixth spots. Tashawna Higgins 19 points and Ashalee Gordon 14 were the main scores for Jamaica while Natalie day (20) led the way for the US Virgin Islands.

Meanwhile Jamaica's boxers will bow into action today at 7 p.m.
