Stephenson goes second with four-timer
SASKATOON (CMC):
Jamaican Neville Stephenson rode four winners to take all the headlines on Friday's eight-race card at Marquis Downs.
He won the curtain-raiser with 5-4 choice Sin Fronteras, captured race four with favourite Pretty Dark Rose and race five with 4-1 chance Harbor Gold, before wrapping up proceedings with his last win aboard another favourite Dee Jay Snow.
With the success, Stephenson overtook fellow Jamaican Jodeien Anderson to go second on 15 wins, while Trinidadian Nicholas Patrick, who won twice, remained on top with 24 wins.
REACHTHEWIRE
Stephenson was forced to pull out all the stops as he opened his account in a seven-furlong trip for the three-year-old and upward maiden fillies and mares.
He duelled early on with Tavi's Princess before getting the three-year-old filly clear in mid-stretch to reach the wire by 1-1/4 lengths.
Stephenson was then dominant over a mile in race four when he made all the running with bay filly Pretty Dark Rose, to crush the three-year-olds by 8-1/2 lengths.
The pair were already three lengths clear at the half run in an easy 48.62 seconds and there were no challengers in the stretch.
Stephenson wasted little time in adding to his tally, steering five-year-old chestnut mare Harbor Gold to an emphatic 6-1/2 length victory in race five.
They duelled with Butters Better before emerging at the front to make the running and control the later half of the event.
Stephenson then capped off a fine day in the saddle, carrying eight-year-old bay gelding Dee Jay Snow to a three-quarter length score over the three-year-old and upwards in a six-furlong contest.
The pair chased Super Indian through the quarter before picking up the running and holding off Dench at the wire.
