Holy Trinity coach Devon Anderson said his team made yesterday's Group G ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup game against Pembroke Hall much harder than it actually was, as they laboured to a 3-1 win.

Phillion Lawrence's second-half brace saw Anderson's team to victory at Bell Chung Oval, after Rakiech Mundell had cancelled out Dillon McEnnis' 12th minute opener.

Anderson said his team got indisciplined after taking the lead and were nearly made to pay by a hard-working Pembroke Hall unit.

"We started the game on the right foot, but 15-20 minutes into the game, the players realised the game was a bit easy, and they took their foot off the gas, hence that led to Pembroke Hall scoring a goal," Anderson said.

"But going in at half time, we knew we could come back out and score a goal and that's what we did, but we made the game harder than it was, although Pembroke Hall fought hard and gave it a good try," he noted.

Holy Trinity, last year's semi-finalists, started brightly and looked as if they were going to walk away with an easy three points, when McEnnis fired them in front. However, Pembroke Hall remained resilient in defence and on one of their occasional breaks, they won a free-kick, from which Mundell then beat goalkeeper Kevaughn Ricketts to a ball at the back post to head home the equaliser.

However, after the break, Lawrence fired Anderson's team back into the lead from a free kick on the edge of the area in the 68th minute. Then deep into stoppage time, the midfielder broke through and rounded Jermaine Wright in goal to seal the win with his second.

The victory gives Holy Trinity their third win from as many games, but Anderson says they are still far from being the finished article and cites communication as the biggest obstacle within the team.

"We have three (wins) from three (games), but we have a lot of work to do. We are not halfway there as yet, but with each game, we are getting closer step by step," he said. "Going up against a good side (Wolmer's) on Monday means we have a lot of work to do within the next two days, but we will try to get things right for Monday."

Pembroke Hall's assistant coach, Craig White, believes his team gave a solid performance but thought they were let down by poor goalkeeping.
