Regional Four-Day Championship Cricket: Volcanoes in a spot of bother
The Windward Island Volcanoes were in a spot of bother against the Jamaica Scorpions at lunch on Saturday's day two of their Regional Four-Day Championship Cricket match at Sabina Park.
Resuming at 34 for one at the start of play, the Volcanoes are struggling at 89 for five at lunch. This in reply to 210 made by the Scorpions. The first batsman to go today was Roland Cato who went leg before wicket to the medium pace of Rovman Powell for 23. Next to go was Tarryck Gabriel who laboured for his seven from 81 balls. After almost seemingly unable to score, he tried to break the shackle by having a wild heave at Nikita Miller and lost his off stump.
Sunil Ambris was worked over by a hostile and aggressive spell from Oshane Thomas. Ambris had to be ducking and weaving from some furious bouncers. He then got one from Thomas that was well pitched up and in trying to work it through midwicket, only managed to get the leading edge to Fabian Allen at gully. He went for 11.
Kavem Hodge didn't last long before he was beaten for sheer pace and had his stumps destroyed by the impressive Thomas from only his second ball faced. Captain Kirk Edwards has survived to reach 14 from 51 balls while Alick Athanaze is 10 from 22. These two will resume after the break. Thomas has so far taken two for 37 from 12 overs. While Raynard Leveridge, Powell and Miller have all taken a wicket each.
