Leading rider Trevor Simpson has the leg up on MISS JUDY in tomorrow’s opening event of the Sunrise-Six, and the mare’s connections should be smiling all the way to the bank at the end of this 1400 metres event.

MISS JUDY was quietly fancied to win Wednesday’s ninth race but was given too much to do in the latter stages by her rider. It should be very different tomorrow. The five-year-old mare was pushed out in the final stages of Wednesday’s 1700 metres race but could make no impression on winner MIRABILIS and ended up fourth by just under two lengths. Simpson, with 10 winners already this year, is expected to have MISS JUDY much closer to the leaders tomorrow, and his usual power-pack finish should ensure that she gains an easy victory.

Classics contender SUPREME SOUL will be racing against the clock in the second event over 1500 metres. The Soul Warrior – Beware Baby colt who lost last year’s Jamaica Two-year-old Stakes by half a length to Wayne Dacosta’s RUN THATCH RUN, romped to victory by eight lengths in his seasonal debut on January 12, clocking 1:26.0 for 1400 metres. He has been working very well to meet this engagement, and it will be an afternoon stroll for the Chevan Maharaj-owned, Anthony Nunes-trained colt.

Race Three over 1700 metres will be a real test of stamina for maiden four-year-olds and up. Leading lights are DARE TO SPEAK and LAMBANA. The latter is in very good form. He was runner-up to POLLY FLYER in a 1500 metres event on January 5 and returned to place third behind QUORA two weeks later in a 1600 metres race. The grey gelding is expected to be up with the pace for the majority of the race, but DARE TO SPEAK is bred to get the distance and should pass this stamina test with flying colours.

OKAHUMPKA has finished second on his past three starts and is tipped to go one better in tomorrow’s fourth race over 1000 metres straight for five-year-olds and up non-winners of two. The selection lost by only a head to FOREST ROSE in a driving finish over the distance last December 29 and is still weighted to run a big race. OK DUDE and BELTANE should be watched carefully as they are both very fit horses.

Trained by Patrick Smellie, OK DUDE lost by a short head to LAGUNA POINT in an 800 metres straight race on January 5 while BELTANE was two lengths behind the selection over 1100 metres on December 1.

HOVER CRAFT and SUPERLUMINAL will fight out the finish in the fifth for open-allowance horses while BIG BLACK NATION is the firm choice in Race Six.
