Runs galore in Sandals St Mary Big Bash T20
Two stroke-filled centuries highlighted the second round of the Sandals St Mary Cricket Association Big Bash T20 competition last Sunday.
At Day’s Mountain, Richardo ‘Chu Chu’ Thompson slammed an unbeaten 112 as the home team rattled up 283 for two off their 20 overs against newcomers Geddes Town. The swashbuckling stroke-maker was ably supported by Super League player Andre Bryce, who made 95.
In their reply, Geddes Town found the going too hot to handle and were bundled out for 44, with only Delroy Anderson, 18 not out, offering any resistance to Lennox Bridgete, six for 26, and Delroy Patterson, three for five.
In the feature match at the same venue, Port Maria extended their unbeaten run with a nail-biting two-wicket win over Highgate. Batting first, Highgate made 138 all out off 16.5 overs, with Renar Ross getting 45. Wayne Forrester took four for 16. In their turn at the crease, Port Maria reached 139 for eight, thanks to Richard Creary, 21, and Toussaint Hassan, 18, not out.
Over at Boscobel Oval, national representative Alwyn Williams was in magnificent form, smashing 112 off just 65 balls, inclusive of six sixes and 15 fours, as Boscobel rattled up 205 for two against Jack’s River. He was ably supported by Tyrone Daley, 38 off 33 balls, and Maurice Harrow, 27 off 17 deliveries.
In their turn at the crease, Jack’s River could only manage 141 for eight off their 20 overs, with skipper Hanchard Hamilton lashing 42 off 45 deliveries laced with four fours and one six. Delan Rickets bagged two for 32.
In the first game at Boscobel, Oxford defeated Mango Valley by four wickets. Batting first, Mango Valley scored 143 all out, thanks to Michael Belnavis’ 53 from 41 balls and Nedroy Pinnock, with 34. Emile Thomas took three for 32, and Kemar Rodney, two for 14. Oxford replied with 144 for four, with Orlando Simmonds getting 46 (four fours and three sixes) and Elias Wolliston, 30.
At Three Hills Oval, the home team defeated Bonnie Gate by 23 runs. In their knock, Three Hills amassed 143 off their allotted overs, with Jeff Staple scoring an attractive 89 not out, while the youthful Bonnie Gate aggregation could only manage 120 for nine.
The competition, which is also sponsored by Costly Construction, Parkway Pharmacy, Braham Service Station and Wisynco, continues next Sunday with four scheduled matches.
