Richardson, Williams shine at age-group badminton

Tahlia Richardson and Mickhail Williams were triple winners in the first half of the NABUCO (National Association of Badminton Umpires and Court Officials) age group challenge at the Constant Spring Golf Club last weekend.

Richardson won the Under-19 girls singles over Tahlellah Townsend 21-6, 21-11. She then paired with Shezelle McTyson to win the Under-19 girls doubles, beating Stefani-Imani Brown and Rihanna Rust 21-14, 21-16.

She topped off the evening with a 21-13, 21-8 victory in the mixed doubles with partner and fellow triple winner Williams.

Williams won the Under-19 boys ­singles 21-7, 21-12 over Daniel Edwards, and with Adam Taylor by his side, he won the Under-19 boys doubles 21-13, 21-8 over Matthew Gibbs and Chrissano Hanner.

The double winners were 12-year-old Rust, 10-year-old Jelani Howell and Aundre Brown. Rust won the Under-15 girls ­singles and the Under-15 girls ­doubles with partner Destiny Frater. Jelani Howell won the Under-11 boys singles and teamed with Brown to win the Under-15 boys doubles. Aundre Brown’s other win was the Under-15 boys singles.

The meet continues tomorrow with the Under-13, Under-17 and senior ­competitions at 9 a.m. at the same venue.
