IAAF World Relays | Silver for Jamaica in men's 4x400m, women fade to fifth

There were mixed results for Jamaica in the 4x400m relay finals at the IAAF World Relays in Yokohama, Japan on Sunday, with the men taking second place and the women finishing in fifth.

The team of Demish Gaye, Akeem Bloomfield, Rusheen McDonald and Nathon Allen fought valiantly for their second place finish in 3:01.57, finishing behind Trinidad and Tobago, 3:00.81 (world lead) with the Americans, who actually crossed the line in second place ahead of the Jamaicans, suffering a disqualification for a lane infringement.  

Third place went to Belgium in 3:02.70.

In the women's 4x400m final, the Jamaicans faded to fifth in a time of 3:28.30, with the win going to Poland, 3:27.49, who surprised the USA, 3:27.65 with Italy, 3:27.74, taking third.

The Jamaican team comprised Chrisann Gordon, Anastasia Le-Roy, Tiffany James and Janieve Russell, who struggled on the anchor leg, after taking the baton in second position.
