Scott upbeat despite injury in Doha
Doha, Qatar:
Although he expressed how grateful he is to have represented his country at the 2019 World Athletics Championship, Jordan Scott couldn’t hide his disappointment after he was forced to stop in the preliminary round of the Men’s Triple Jump yesterday.
Scott aggravated a hamstring injury on his first attempt, where he registered 14.73m. The former Campion College student picked up the injury to his right hamstring five days ago during a practice session.
“I was doing some jumps, and coming off one of them, I slightly strained my hamstring, and today (yesterday), I was just trying to rebound but it just wasn’t happening,” he said.
As he walked out of the Khalifa International Stadium here, he tried to look positive, but he admitted that he was disappointed about not being able to show what he was capable off doing.
“I am disappointed, knowing that I was training all this time to come here, and for something to happen while I am here, it’s sad,” Scott said in the mixed zone on his way out of the stadium. “It is disappointing, but at the same time, it could have happened to anybody, so I am just trying to stay optimistic because it is not the end of the world.”
PERSONAL BEST
Scott, who has a personal best of 17.08m, put together his best season as a senior athlete this year. Not only did he jump over 17m, but he produced a series of 17-m leaps on the US Collegiate circuit for the University of Virginia.
Prior to this season, his previous best was 16.82m, a distance he achieved at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Baranquilla, Colombia, last year.
The 22 year-old believes his steady progress will be rewarded soon and has vowed to come back stronger for the Tokyo Olympic Games next year.
“It is back to the drawing board to get healthy for the Olympics,” Scott said.
