Five males, nine females nominated for RJRGLEANER Sportsman and Sportswoman of the year

Multiple World and Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce headlines a strong field of nominees for the 2019 RJRGLEANER Foundation Sportswoman of the Year award.

The announcement was made at the National Sportsman and Woman of the Year Awards press launch today at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston.

Fraser-Pryce marked her return to the track this season winning her fourth 100m world title at the 2019 World Championships in Doha, Qatar in a world-leading time of 10.71 seconds.

Her run is also nominated for the People's Choice 'Performance of the Year' award.

Three-time National Sportswoman of the Year Alia Atkinson is also nominated after a great season on the circuit which saw her qualify for the 2020 Olympics.

In a year which saw excellent performances in field events, world championship silver medallists Danniel Thomas-Dodd and Shanieka Ricketts are also among the nominees.

Sportswoman of the Year nominees

* Alia Atkinson - FINA Swimming World Cup championship record.
* Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce - World 100m champion.
* Rushell Clayton - World Championships 400m hurdles bronze medallist.
* Natoya Goule - Pan America Games 800m champion. 
* Shericka Jackson - World Championships 400m bronze medallist.
* Shanieka Ricketts - World Championships triple jump silver medallist.
* Danniel Thomas-Dodd - World Championships shot put silver medallist.
* Elaine Thompson - Pan America Games 100m champion. 
* Danielle Williams - World Championships 100m hurdles bronze medallist.

On the male side, long jumper Tajay Gayle, who recorded an unprecedented win at the World Championships, heads the list for Sportsman of the Year.

* Tajay Gayle - World Championships long jump gold medallist.
* Fedrick Dacres - World Championships discus silver medallist.
* Christopher Binnie - Caribbean squash champion.
* Yona Knight-Wisdom - Pan American Games diving silver medallist.
* Travis Smikle - Pan American Games discus silver medallist. 

Last year, Atkinson was awarded Sportswoman of the Year, while Dacres was Sportsman of the Year.

* Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce: Lightening Speed - Amazing gold medal run in the IAAF World Champions in a world leading 10.71 winning 100m.
* Tajay Gayle: Earth shattering - Gold medal performance at IAAF World Championships with the longest jump in the world for 10 years.
* Natoya Goule: Unrelenting - Determined win over 800m at the Pan American Games.
* Shamar Nicholson: Priceless - Long distance strike in a game-winning friendly international against the United States. 
* Havana Solaun: Historic - Scored Jamaica's first-ever goal at the FIFA Women's World Cup.

The awards will be presented on January 17, 2021.
