Rocco Lopez was in scintillating form despite challenging final day conditions to come out on top at the three-day Jamaica Golf Association National Junior Trials which was held at the Caymanas Golf Course.

Competing in the 15 and under age group category, Lopez blitzed the field to finish 13 strokes better than his nearest rival after carding an eight-over par 224 following scores of 73, 74 and 77.

Lopez was the only golfer to record scores in the 70s and his five over par final round was attributed to the challenging windy conditions at the Caymanas course. He was, however, pleased with his overall performance at the trials.

“Well, I am not too happy about it because I knew I could do a lot better but in the end, with everything and the hard conditions, I guess I can say I am satisfied. Sunday was especially hard because there was no sun and it was extremely windy so it made it a lot harder than the previous days”, said Lopez.

With confidence riding high, Lopez is already looking forward to the 32nd Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championship which will be held in the Dominica Republic in the upcoming months.

“After finishing second last year we definitely would love to bring home the trophy, even though it is early days I will be training for the next couple of months to get as good as I can be for the championship.”

Meanwhile, Matthew Grant finished in second place following a score of 237 with Aman Dhiman third with a three-day total of 245.

The top three golfers in the 18 & under category were Kristian Chin 239, Tristan Brown, 241 and Tequan Goodwill 255.
