Solomon Sharpe, chairman of Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment Limited (SVREL), has confirmed that racing at Caymanas Park will take place this weekend without spectators.
On Thursday, chairman of the Jamaica Racing Commission (JRC) Clovis Metcalfe said they had suspended this Saturday and Sunday's race meets due to recent confirmed cases of the coronavirus disease in Jamaica.
Sharpe said following a meeting with the JRC today, both parties agreed that racing will go ahead behind closed doors this weekend.
“I am very pleased about this because this is a win for racing,” said Sharpe.
"We have a peculiar sport with a great distribution system. A lot of punters will be in contact with our product and we are racing behind closed doors with no spectators,” he said.
Twenty races were scheduled for this weekend, 10 on Saturday and 10 on Sunday.
