Caymanas patrons evicted for protocol breach
An apprentice jockey was among 35 persons who were evicted from Caymanas Park at the weekend for breaches of the COVID-19 protocols that have been implemented by Supreme Ventures Racing and Entertainment.
A number of grooms, a father of a prominent jockey, and a jockey agent were also thrown out of the venue.
Supreme Ventures General Manager Lorna Gooden said they are committed to the guidelines and protocols that have been established by the Government to maintain the safety of all patrons.
“It is very important to us and it is very important to the continuation of our operations that protocols are maintained and we will be strident in how we ensure that they are followed and maintained,” she said.
“These protocols are vital to the continuity of the business because if the operations shut down, then we are back in a COVID state with no income and that cannot happen.
“It is not only important to Supreme Ventures, it is also important to stakeholders, so we have to ensure that it (protocols) is adhered to at all times.”
She said that 20 persons were evicted on Sunday while 15 were ejected on Saturday.
Chief Executive Officer Jason McKay said McKay Security, responsible for policing Caymanas Park, said they will continue to be vigilant to ensure that all protocols are adhered to on the property.
“The problem is people comply at the entrances and when they come they do as they like,” he said.
“We are having challenges, so we are having a zero-tolerance approach because we are one of the few venues on the planet that have been able to operate with 1,200 people. We know it is a privilege and we don’t take it for granted.
“We plan to continue because that 35 is going to be 200 if people continue to breach it.”
Racing continues at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
