TVJ takes Champs return to the world
Despite being without the usual 30,000-strong crowd, the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships is back. Despite the absence of that crowd, the world will be watching the biggest high school track and field meet anywhere thanks to the efforts of Television Jamaica, and in particular, its 1spotmedia platform.
For the triumphant return of the Championships on May 11 in the face of the spread of COVID-19, 1spotmedia is offering again its exclusive Pay-Per-View with Early Early Bird specials for those who have missed the island’s showpiece track and field event.
PAY-PER-VIEW CHAMPS
The site, which streams its suite of live audiovisual channels, VODs and rental content, is offering five days of pay-per-view showings of the event.
Days one through three cost US$10.99, while the days with the high incidents of finals, four and five, attract a cost of US$15.99 and US$20.99, respectively. However, there is also a season pass of US$25.99 for all five days.
The Early Early Bird specials end on Monday, April 26, but keep an eye on this space for more 1spotmedia offers.
The opportunities for athletes who compete at Champs are significant. The furtherance of education for many of them depends on their performances at the marquee event and despite the obvious threats of COVID-19, the Government has acknowledged the importance of ensuring these opportunities remain in the pipeline.
General Manager at TVJ, Claire Grant, believes in the importance of the Champs product, not just for the value it provides to viewers all over the world, but also for the importance to the participants.
“Champs is an iconic Jamaican staple athletic and entertainment event happening for more than 100 years. Its staging is of great psychological significance to our children and to the country helping us all to have a sense of normal that we all need right now,” she said.
