USA beat Mexico 3-2 for first Concacaf Nations League title
The United States of America have won the inaugural Concacaf Nations League title.
They defeated rivals Mexico 3-2 in extra time in the final at the Mile High Stadium in Denver, Colorado on Sunday night.
Mexico capitalised on weak defending to take the lead through Jesús Corona in the second minute before Giovanni Reyna equalised for the US in the 27th. Mexico went ahead through Diego Lainez in the 79th minute but that lead only lasted three minutes as Weston McKennie capitalised on poor marking to put the US back on level terms.
The game, which was filled with controversial moments, including brawls, saw the US earn a penalty after a VAR review in extra time. Captain Christian Pulisic scored from the spot to put the Americans ahead in the 114th minute.
Mexico had their chance to equalise in the 30th minute of extra time from a penalty given for a handball, also through a VAR review. But Andrés Guardado had his spot kick saved by American goalkeeper Ethan Horvath, as Gregg Berhalter's team held on for the win.
