Jamaica defeat Guadeloupe 2-1, move a step closer towards Gold Cup quarterfinals
Jamaica defeated Guadeloupe 2-1 in their Concacaf Gold Cup Group C game at the Exploria Stadium in Orlando, Florida on Friday evening.
An own goal by defender Amari'i Bell gave Guadeloupe the lead in the fourth minute before Cory Burke equalised in the 14th minute with a low drive that found the bottom corner. Leon Bailey thought he gave the Jamaicans the lead 10 minutes later, but his goal was ruled offside by VAR.
Jamaica had the majority of chances in the second half and it seemed that Guadeloupe would hold on for a point but second-half substitute Junior Flemmings scored the winner in the 87th minute to put the Reggae Boyz in pole position to advance to the quarterfinals. Jamaica would confirm their place should Costa Rica defeat Suriname in their game on Friday night.
