World champion Tajay Gayle missed out on the medals in the Men's Long Jump event at the Tokyo Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan on Monday.

Gayle, who sustained a knee injury in the qualification round on Saturday, could only find enough strength to muster a distance of 7.69m for 11th place in the final.

The event was won by world leader Miltiadis Tentoglou, of Greece, with a jump of 8.41m. Cuba took silver and bronze as Juan Miguel Echevarria placed second with a distance of 8.41m and Maykel Masso was third with a mark of 8.21m.

Gayle was making his Olympic debut.
