Lyston disqualified in World U-20 200m final

Jamaica's Brianna Lyston crossed the line in fourth in the Women's 200 metres final but was disqualified for a lane violation on today's Day Four of the World Under-20 Championships in Nairobi, Kenya.

Lyston stepped on the inside of her lane while going around the bend in the race won in a World Under-20 record 21.84 seconds by Christine Mboma of Namibia.

Her compatriot, Beatrice Masilinga, took silver in a personal best (PB) 22.18 while Favour Ofili ran a Nigerian Under-20 National record 22.23 for bronze.

Jamaica's second finalist in the event, Aalliyah Francis, placed seventh in 23.96.

The Jamaican team ended the day on four medals and seventh place on the medal table.

Earlier Vashaun Vascianna had brought Jamaica's medal tally to four when he clocked a PB 13.25 seconds to take the silver medal in the 110m hurdles.

He finished behind France's Sasha Zhoya, who clocked a World U20 record of 12.72.

The bronze went to Poland's Jakub Szymański in a PB 13.43.

Vascianna's silver adds to Jamaica's two gold by Tina Clayton in the Women's 100m on Friday and Ackera Nugent in the Women's 100m hurdles earlier on Saturday.

Kavian Kerr pocketed bronze in the Men's long jump final on Friday.
