Netball Jamaica AGM today
Netball Jamaica (NJ) will elect a new treasurer as Karlene Waugh faces off with Winston De La Haye at its annual general meeting (AGM) at the Jamaica Conference Centre in downtown Kingston today at 11 a.m.
Both candidates will be vying to replace Janet Johnson, who is not seeking re-election. Former Sunshine Girls captain Simone Forbes will run against Garth Sommerville for the post of first vice-president.
The first vice-president post has been vacant since February 2020 after Tricia Robinson became NJ’s president.
Seven persons will be vying for four director spots on NJ’s board. They are Shawn Murdock, Erica Ewbanks, and newcomers Basil Taylor, Kelly Hamilton, Karen Baugh, Shaneil May, and Valarie Passley.
Robinson says that all is in place for what she hopes is a successful AGM.
“They are very good candidates for the post of treasurer and, whichever candidate is successful, I will be more than willing to work with them,” she said. “This is a voluntary organisation and we have to be appreciative of people’s time and effort. So welcome everyone on board. Their résumés are very impressive.”
Robinson said that all the new candidates have been around netball for some time and their experiences will serve the association well in the future.
