A stoppage-time goal from striker Shai Smith carried Portmore United to a 2-1 win over Vere United in their Jamaica Premier League encounter at the Drax Hall Sports Complex on Sunday.

Portmore had earlier taken the lead in the 55th minute when Deandre Cunningham notched his first goal of the season.

A spirited Vere United fought back and got the deserved equaliser in the 61st minute when Javier Brown headed home from close range.

Smith would secure all three points in added time when he back-heeled a cross past three defenders and the goalkeeper to lift Portmore to eight points and seventh position in the standings.

Vere United are now in the ninth position following the loss with six points.
