HView hit Molynes for four
Harbour View FC’s assistant coach, Sean Fraser, singled out striker Colorado Murray for special mention as the former Waterhouse ace netted a brace to lead the Stars of the East to a 4-1 win over 10-man Molynes United in the Jamaica Premier League at Sabina Park yesterday.
Murray (17th and 76th) scored a goal in each half, while Travonne Reid (22nd minute penalty) and Oshane Staple (87th minute) were the other scorers for the Ludlow Bernard-coached Harbour View.
Murray left Waterhouse during the current transfer window and after three games without a goal, Fraser said he knew it was just a matter of time.
“He is a big player in this league and a proven goalscorer. He has scored goals all over and it is just a matter of time before he started scoring,” Fraser said. “It is the first time since I have been around the team that we have scored four goals in a match. It is a blessing and a wonderful performance,” he added.
For weeks, Fraser has lamented his team’s poor conversion rate based on the chances they created each match, however, he believes the hard work they have been doing in front of goal is finally paying off.
“We created more chances and could have scored more. But I said that I wouldn’t stop working with the strikers and that we will not stop until everything comes together, and the hard work just paid off today. Molynes have been on a winning streak, but we needed the points badly today,” he stated.
Harbour View started well and jumped into the lead after 17 minutes when Colorado Murray slammed an unstoppable shot past Peter Harrison from close range.
Five minutes later they were handed a chance to add to their lead when they were awarded a penalty, which Trayvonne Reid dispatched in the 22nd minute to put Harbour View 2-0 up at the break.
Molynes had chances of their own, but Jeremy Nelson and Carrick Stewart failed to take advantage towards the end of the half.
Molynes ‘problems worsened in the 53rd minute when Rushawn Plummer received a second yellow card and was ejected.
But Molynes got a goal back when Nicholas Nelson was fouled inside the area, He converted the penalty in the 67th minute
Harbour View then squandered a great chance to restore their two-goal advantage when they received a second penalty for a foul on Reid in the box, but Reid placed the effort wide of the target.
The winners, however, restored their two-goal cushion with 14 minutes remaining when Staple’s shot came back off the post and Murray fired home the rebound.
Staple sealed the win with three minutes to go when he gained possession outside the Molynes area and sent a rocket past Harrison to make it 4-1.
“We didn’t have a very good game and the red card affected us a whole lot. We tried to change the formation, and we scored. But they had a man more, and they ran us into the ground,” Molynes assistant Andre Daley said.
“We are disappointed. We won back-to-back games, and coming into the second round, we felt we could have had another three points today,” he added.
Harbour View overtook Portmore in sixth place with 16 points, while Molynes stayed tenth on 10 points.
In other games yesterday, Mount Pleasant turned back Humble Lion 2-1, Waterhouse blanked Montego Bay United 3-0, and Cavalier clipped 10-man Arnett Gardens 1-0.
