JFF no closer to naming head coach
Paul Hall still front runner, other applications being considered
PAUL HALL remains the front runner to carry on as senior men’s national football team coach. However, other candidates have submitted their applications for the job, Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) competitions chairman, Rudolph Speid revealed.
Hall’s tenure as Reggae Boyz head coach ended March 30, following the team’s last Concacaf final round World Cup qualifying match against Honduras at the National Stadium.
Although public opinion is strongly divided over whether or not the 49-year-old should remain in the job, the JFF said it would assess his performance before making a decision on the next Reggae Boyz coach.
Speid disclosed, however, that they are no closer to naming the coach of the team, as Hall’s assessment is incomplete and they are also evaluating submissions from other applicants.
Although not wanting to give away much, Speid told The Gleaner: “We are not close.”
FRONT RUNNER
We haven’t finished assessing him (Hall) as yet but he is still the front runner. But other people are still applying. We are looking at some other people and we have to do that,” he commented.
Hall replaced Theodore Whitmore after eight of 14 games in the 2023 World Cup qualifying campaign in December, but found the going just as tough as his predecessor.
Still, many have expressed admiration for the team’s more possession-based, attacking style.
The Reggae Boyz return to international competition when they contest Group A of the Concacaf Nation’s League first stage, starting on June 4, where they have been drawn against Mexico and Suriname.
