OregonGoldRush | Seville the quickest of the Jamaicans into 100 semis

Jamaica’s Oblique Seville presented a comfortable figure when he led the island’s men into the semi-finals of the World Athletics Championships 100 metres inside the Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon this evening.

Seville, running in Heat Four of seven, clocked 9.93 seconds and shut down the engines to finish ahead of Olympic Champion, Italy’s Lamont Marcell Jacobs, who clocked a season’s best 10.04.

In the meantime, Jamaica’s other entrants in the men’s 100, Ackeem Blake and Yohan Blake had no major issues making it through to the semi-finals, which takes place tomorrow at 8 p.m.

Ackeem Blake finished second in his heat, clocking 10.15 behind the efforts of the United States’ Marvin Bracy, 10.05.

Yohan Blake was also second, clocking 10.04 to finish behind the World Under-20 Record-run of Botwana’s Letsile Tebogo.

Tebogo clocked 9.94 seconds to break his own 9.96 set earlier this year.

Still, the most impressive of the evening’s qualifiers were the three Americans, Fred Kerley, Trayvon Brommell, and Christian Coleman.

Kerley looked very comfortable in clocking a fast 9.79, to finish ahead of Great Britain’s Zharnel Hughes, 9.97.

Brommell was slower but just as comfortable, in clocking 9.89. Coleman was slowest, only running 10.08, but he had much more left in the tank.
