Jamaica’s Bouwahjgie Nkrumie won the silver medal and also broke the national junior record in the final of the men’s 100 metres at the World Under-20 Championships at the Pascual Guerrero Olympic Stadium in Cali, Colombia on Tuesday.

The event was won by defending champion Letsile Tebogo of Botswana, who clocked 9.91 seconds to establish a new World Under-20 record, with Nkrumie the new national junior standard of 10.02 seconds as South African Benjamin Richardson ended third in 10.12.

Both Tebogo and Nkrumie got excellent starts and quickly moved away from their rivals with Tebago starting his celebration after completing approximately 70 metres as he was well ahead of Nkrumie, whose teammate Sandrey Davison, pulled up in the sem-finals hours before.

It was the second medal for Jamaica at the Championships, as earlier in the day, the island’s mixed relay quartet, captured a bronze medal.
