Express provides assistance for Lannaman’s, Mona Prep schools
Express Canteen Services has made a timely delivery in sponsorship to Lannaman’s and Mona Preparatory schools, providing assistance for their participation in this season’s Jamaica Independent Schools Association (JISA) football competition.
Both schools, which have traditionally done well in the competition, benefited to the tune of $150,000 each.
“Express Canteen is extremely excited about this sponsorship to Lannaman’s Prep School football team and their participation in this year’s JISA football competition,” Ryan Foster, chief executive officer (CEO) at Express Canteen, said during last Friday’s presentation at Lannaman’s.
“Express Canteen is not only a concessionaire at Lannaman’s, but I am also a past student of the school. I am extremely proud of the accomplishments of the school over the years in football and this donation of $150,000 will go towards assisting the team with their nutrition and equipment,”Foster added.
Trudy Hardy, principal at Lannaman’s, was thankful for the contribution, especially as it follows the non-active period brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I want to thank Express Canteen, and Ryan Foster in particular … for the kind donation towards our sports programme. It will definitely go a far way and we appreciate it,” she said. “For these sports programmes, every little counts, to feed them, to ensure that there’s transportation to get them to and back from match venues and of course, their gear. So we’re very, very grateful for this.”
Both Lannaman’s and Mona registered convincing wins in their opening matches. Lannaman’s defeated Obistan Prep 21-0 with main contributions from Ramesh Simms and Roshane Jeffery (four goals each), plus hat-tricks from Shaquan Small, Rushawn Morgan and Zidane Campbell.
FINANCIAL DIFFICULTIES
Howard ‘German’ Martin, coach of the Lannaman’s team, said the sponsorship is “very, very important as we’re coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic and of course, we’re facing financial difficulties”.
Mona Prep won their opening game by a 4-0 margin.
“In the case of Mona Prep, we have a very engaging relationship with the Parent Teachers Association (PTA) and the school’s executives and the support to the football programme is seen as a continuation of our partnership in chess, for which we have been sponsors for more than three years, and the general PTA activities such as quiz and school fund-raising events. We believe in success on the field and in the classroom,” the Express Canteen CEO said.
