Nugent’s U20 indoor 60m record ratified by World Athletics
Sprint hurdler Ackera Nugent’s world indoor under-20 is among four world records ratified recently by World Athletics.
Nugent, the former Excelsior High School stand-out, sped to a world record time of 7.92 seconds back in March 2021 to win the indoor under 20 60 metres at the Larry Wieczrek Invitational in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
Among the other times to be ratified by the governing body was American Erriyon Knighton’s under 20 200m record of 19.69 seconds which he achieved at the USA trials back in June of this year at Eugene, Oregon. He finished in second place behind Noah Lyles who clocked 19.68.
Also, the world 10K record of 29.14 set by Ethiopia’s Yalemzerf Yehualawin in the Spanish province of Castillon on February 27 has also been made official. The Ethiopian distance runner lowered the previous mark of 29.43 which was set by Kenya’s Joyciline Jepkosgei.
The fourth record which was announced as official went to South Africa’s Stephen Mokoka who clocked 2:40:13 in Gqeberha, South Africa to win the men’s Nedbank Runified 50km back in March to erase the previous time of 2:42:07 which was set by Ethiopia’s Ketema Negasa back in 2020 at the same event.
