WORLD CHAMPIONSHPS 200-metre champion, Shericka Jackson, continued her season’s preparation by winning the women’s 400 metres at the GC Foster Classics yesterday in a season’s best 52.05 seconds.

Drawn in lane six, Jackson covered her rivals in lane seven and eight quickly before racing steadily for the remainder of the race to win and improve on her previous season’s best, 53.11 seconds.

Ronda Whyte of Adidas was second in 53.18 seconds while Anthonique Strachan of MVP Track Club ended third in 53.91.

Jackson was pleased with the effort.

“I feel good and I cannot complain as it is a season’s best. I have a lot of love for the 400 metres and I have a few more to go, but I will not return to the event just yet,” said Jackson when asked if she will be going back to the one-lap event this season.

The GC Foster College duo of Mickaell Moodie and Kadrian Goldson gave the home team a perfect start early in the day by respectively capturing the women’s and men’s 100-metre events.

QUALITY FIELD

Moodie turned back a quality field in the women’s event, clocking 11.83 seconds as Jura Levy of Legacy Track Club, 11.87, and Srbani Nanda of MVP Track Club, 12.14, ended second and third, respectively.

The athletes ran into a negative 1.9 metre-per-second wind.

Goldson, formerly of Manchester High, won the men’s event in 10.44 seconds while battling a negative 1.7-metre-per-second headwind.

Oshane Bailey of Sprintec and Brendon Rodney of Swept Track Club both clocked 10.54 seconds for second and third. Long jumper Tajay Gayle, of MVP Track Club, was fourth in 10.56 seconds.

“I feel very proud about my win today. Despite the windy conditions, I came out and executed well, which took me to victory,” he said.

In the field, MVP’s Christoffe Bryan and Lushane Wilson of GC Foster College continued their keen high jump battle this season, the former coming out on top with a clearance of 2.20 metres. Wilson cleared 2.10 metres for second.

Yesterday also saw Edwin Allen High School’s Class Three girl Theanne Lee Terrelong bouncing back in style after her disappointment on Friday at the Carifta Trials, where she was disqualified for false-starting. Terrelong, the Champs Class Three defending sprint double champion, was impressive in the 100 metres, stopping the clock at 11.82 seconds for the fastest time on the day.

Among the boys, Kingston College’s Nicardo Clarke won the boys’ Class Two 100 metres in 10.87 seconds ahead of teammate Nyron Wade, who was second in a personal best of 11.01 seconds. Teammate Jonathon Clarke won Class Three in a personal best of 11.29 seconds.
