#Champs2023 | Seven earn automatic qualification to Class One high jump final
Kingston College's Aaron Thomas and Aaron McKenzie and Jamaica College's Chavez Penn were the most impressive qualifiers in the boys' Class One high jump at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Athletics Championships inside the National Stadium.
The three missed no heights on their way to the automatic qualification mark of 1.95 metres for tomorrow's final.
Thomas passed at the opening height of 1.80 and did so again at 1.85, before clearing 1.90 and 1.95 cleanly.
Thomas' teammate, McKenzie, who jumped in the second flight of the competition, passed on all heights save for the automatic qualification mark of 1.95, making light work of the preliminary round.
JC's Penn was also perfect, passing on 1.80 and 1.85, before clearing 1.90 and eventually the automatic height without any mishaps.
Also through to the final automatically, albeit with a few hiccups, are Cornwall College's Amiuki Beckford, Calabar High School's Xavier Codling, JC's Adrian Rumble, and St Mary High School's Ovane Williams.
Also through to make up what will be a 13-man final after Titchfield's Antwan Salmon and Manchester's Jordan Richards both jumped 1.85 metres without being separated on countback, are; St Jago's Lance Lawrence, Cornwall's Kesean Rhooms, Calabar's Jevontae Grant, and Munro's Jay-Quan Brown.
