Men’s hockey team registers first victory at CAC Games
JAMAICA’S men’s hockey team blanked hosts El Salvador 3-0 yesterday to register their first victory at the 2023 Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games.
Giovanni Gordon, Tyrone Vernon and Tuseef Graham were the scorers for Jamaica. The Duvaughn Henlon-coached team will now turn their attention to Barbados who they will face tomorrow at 1 p.m. Jamaica time.
The men’s 3x3 basketball team tipped off their campaign on a losing note as they went down 21-16 to Dominican Republic. The quartet of Tafari Simms, Romaine Thomas, Anthony White and Abeeb Vernon shot 33 per cent from the field compared to their opponents’ 39 per cent. Dominican Republic also out- jumped the Jamaicans grabbing 20 rebounds to Jamaica’s 18.
In their second game on the day against Haiti, Jamaica again went close but fell short again losing 16-10.
In football 10-man Jamaica were drubbed 6-0 by Costa Rica. Jashaun Anglin was sent off in the 60th minute.
The Jamaicans were on the back foot from the first half as they trailed 3-0 by the halfway stage. A brace from Doryan Rodriguez along with goals from Sebastian Acuna, Kenneth Vargas, Alvaro Zamora and Jorkaeff Azofeifa ensured that Jamaica remained winless from two matches in Group B. Jamaica drew 1-1 with Honduras in their opening match.
The young Reggae Boyz will play their third match tomorrow against Centro Caribe Sports at 3 p.m. Jamaica time.
Honduras are on top of Group B with four points with Costa Rica and Centro Caribe on three points each. Jamaica are at the bottom of the standings with one point.
