Royals, Kings keep pace in Jamaica T10 following wins
The Surrey Royals and Surrey Kings remain the early front-runners for the Dream XI-sponsored Jamaica T10 title after carving out wins yesterday in round eight of the competition which has shifted to Kensington Park from Sabina Park.
After losing to the Kings on Friday, the Royals bounced back with a 19-run win over the Cornwall Warriors in the opening game of the doubleheader which also saw the Surrey Kings easing to a 35-run win over the Middlesex Titans.
In the opening encounter, the Royals first put up 95 for three in their 10 overs with National batsman Carlos Brown leading the way with 38 from 27 balls with one four and two sixes.
Captain Javelle Glenn also weighed in with 22 runs from 18 balls, this against two wickets for Osbourne Palmer.
The Warriors in reply could only manage to get 76 for seven, despite 30 from opener Devario Smith. Leg-spinner Abhijai Mansingh bagged three wickets for nine runs with Nicholson Gordon bagging two wickets for 22 runs.
In the second game, the Surrey Kings posted 96 for seven with Antwin Stevens top scoring with 23 with Tevin Gilzene and Brad Barnes both scoring 22.
Pacer Jermaine Chisholm took two wickets for the Titans who could only manage to score 61 for six in their 10 overs.
Captain Renaldo Ingram tried valiantly to get to the target following his 32 from 25 balls, but West Indies pacer Sheldon Cottrell, with two wickets for just two runs in two overs, ensured the Kings kept their unbeaten run intact and their fifth win of the competition.
Following their victories, the Royals on 15 points lead the Kings, also on 15 points, by net run-rate.
The competition continues today at Kensington Park with the Surrey Kings back in action against the Middlesex United Stars while the Surrey Risers face off with the Middlesex Titans.
