Rain leaves Jamaica idle but Landerfort wrecks Barbados
KINGSTOWN, St Vincent (CMC)
RAIN WRECKED the opening day of the third round of matches in the Rising Stars Under-19 men’s championship, allowing play in only one match yesterday.
In the 43.3 overs available at Arnos Vale Stadium, Barbados struggled to 97 for nine at the close, with opener Zion Brathwaite top-scoring with 35.
The star of the day was lively seamer Chamiqueko Landerfort, the right-armer snatching five for 21 in an impressive spell.
There was no play at Park Hill between Jamaica and Windward Islands nor at Zion Hill where Guyana were expected to clash with Trinidad and Tobago.
Sent in after the morning session was abandoned due to wet conditions, Barbados strolled to 14 without loss before rain returned again to force a stoppage.
When play resumed, Brathwaite and Achilles Browne (17) stretched their opening stand to 42 before being separated, when Browne nicked a defensive prod at Landerfort and was caught behind.
Off the very next delivery, Joshua Dorne gloved a snorter behind, to leave Barbados stumbling on 42 for two, just as another downpour halted play.
Brathwaite, who struck four fours in an 88-ball knock, held the innings together on resumption but Landerfort combined with fellow seamer Kimani Nisbett (3-38) to ensure there was no real recovery for Barbados.
Brathwaite was eventually fifth out, pulling at Nisbett and gloving a leg-side catch to wicketkeeper Carlon Bowen-Tuckett – one of six in the innings for the Nevisian.
