Fight Nights goes to the ‘Jungle’
‘Breezy’ Richards looks to turn back ‘Crane’ Headman
Jermaine ‘Breezy’ Richards and Omar ‘Crane’ Headman will clash in the feature bout as the Wray & Nephew Fight Nights series moves to the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex in Arnett Gardens (popularly known as Jungle) tonight.
The fight was set to be the feature on a eight-fight card last month at the Sugar Gym in Olympic Gardens but was cancelled after Headman came down with the flu. They meet tonight at the second staging of the series, and Headman says he is ready to go.
“I have recovered from it (the flu) 100 per cent. I am fit and well fit for the fight,” he said on the eve of the showdown.
In his first fight, ‘Breezy’ Richards made light work of Stephen Kirnon with a third-round technical knockout victory, but Headman is confident he has what it takes to take down his opponent.
“The other fighters do not have what I have. I know ‘Breezy’ as a good fighter but I am a different style of fighter.
“I know how to fight him and I will just stick to my coach’s instructions,” he said.
“Everyone is going into the ring for a win and, if I wasn’t looking for that, I wouldn’t even go into the ring. So I am just going to do what I’m paid to do and I am well prepared and ready,” Headman said.
Meanwhile, a relaxed and confident ‘Breezy Richards said he can’t wait to entertain his growing local fan base once more, and that his aim is to just enjoy himself.
“I can’t wait for the opportunity to go in the ring again. I am looking forward to it.
“I am well motivated because now I have Jamaica watching me and looking out for my journey. So I am motivated to continue to win.
“He (Headman) will come to fight to show his ability, and I am not going to say I am going to destroy him. But I am looking to go international shortly. So, for now, I am just enjoying my fights and fans can look for another victory for sure,” he said.
The show will feature five amateur and four professional bouts which will include non-Jamaican contenders.
Pavel Smith, marketing manager of Wray & Nephew White Overproof Rum, anticipates this event will be even bigger than the first.
“Jamaica has a love affair with boxing, and Wray & Nephew remains a bedrock in the advancement of the sport in Jamaica.
“We noted the great support for the boxers at the last event, and we reviewed that outing and made some adjustments to enhance the experience for patrons,” he said.
Other fights on the card include D’mitri Moore vs Daniel Linton, Kimarley Samuels vs Delano McLaughlin, Michael Peck vs Jerome Ennis, Jermaine Bowen vs Dwight Young, Christopher Rodriquez vs Kevin Hylton, and Headley Scott vs Roman Canto.
