The Boom El Clasico preseason matchup between long-time rivals Arnett Gardens and Waterhouse takes place today at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex at 6 p.m.

Both clubs are expected to have new-look teams on show after both lost a number of key players in the off-season.

Arnett lost players such as Romeo Guthrie, Marlon Allen, and Damari Deacon, and many are keen to see how they will perform under new coach Xavier Gilbert in his first competitive fixture.

Waterhouse coach Marcel Gayle has also seen the departure of key figures such as Colorado Murray, Ricardo Thomas, Cardel Benbow, and Shaquile Bradford over the past two seasons, and this has severely affected the usually efficient Drewsland-based club.

Nevertheless, whenever the two meet, the battle for bragging rights always takes precedence, and even if the quality is not what it was in previous seasons, it surely will not lack intensity and excitement.

The winners of the game will take home $500,000, with the losing side to receive $300,000.

Professional Football Jamaica Limited’s chief executive officer Owen Hill said fans should come out for a football treat.

“Fans will be treated to a high-energy preseason game, with two of the top teams going head-to-head to kick-start the local football season,” he said.
