DESPITE PLAYING in their first competitive game in more than four weeks, Glenmuir High School had no problem blowing away Tacky High School 76-7 in their Group 4 ISSA Rural Schoolgirl Netball second-round game at the GC Foster College yesterday.

The defending champions, led by goal shooter Tori Mendez and goal attack Fentonian Henry, were on the prowl very early, helping their team race to a big 21-1 lead after the first quarter.

The reigning all-island champions would go on to lead 40-3 at the half-time break, before racing to a 58-5 third-quarter lead.

“It was an easy win as we had expected, despite not playing a game since October. However, the girls went out and did what they had to do although a little fatigue crept in and we will have to work on this going forward, said Ryan Reid, Glemuir coach.

“These matches are like practice sessions and we are using them to help the girls to gel as it is a fairly new bunch of players,” he said.

Glenmuir’s junior team also won yesterday, getting by Marymount High School, 35-10 in Group 2.

Former champions Denbigh got by Brown’s Town High 45-11 in Group 4 of junior competition, while their seniors beat York Castle High, 49-5.

Denbigh coach, Samantha Mundle, said she loves her team’s energy.

“I am extremely pleased with the performance of the team, especially the defensive unit. It is a very good team and we are postive of winning the title this year,” said Mundle.

At Manchester High School yesterday, Holmwood’s juniors got by St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS), 32-24, while their seniors scored a massive 79-6 win over Maggotty.

At STETHS, May Day High’s juniors defeated Green Pond High 25-16 before their seniors beat The Manning’s School, winning 44-11.

In the other game, played yesterday, Manchester High’s juniors walloped Mt Alvernia 41-5 at Manning’s. Manhester’s seniors had a day off, getting a walkover against Montego Bay High, who failed to show.
