Mona revolution complete with first Manning Cup title
Mona High School are urban schoolboy champions for the first time in their history.
Mona, facing Hydel High School in a Manning Cup final that was destined to produce a first-time winner inside the National Stadium this evening, went ahead early in the contest thanks to a Demarion Harris goal in the 10th minute.
In a weeping move, Mona custodian Akeem Bernard drove a long searching diagonal ball that was headed on by Denzel McKenzie and came to the feet of Kshaine Gordon. The right winger controlled well and drove forward before delivering a streaking grounder that was swept home by Harris.
The game itself, was bereft of chances as Mona, for the most part, extinguished the individual brilliance of the Hydel team, who came to life for periods in the second half.
Hydel did manage to put together some beautiful attacks but Mona were always up to the task.
