DaCosta’s Comehometome ready for Boxing Day feature
COMEHOMETOME impressed at exercise last Tuesday morning, clocking the fastest seven-furlong among two-year-olds, 1:29.0, putting aside FASTNFURIOUSLINKS, who posted 1:29.4 in their workout ahead of next Tuesday’s Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes at a mile.
COMEHOMETOME’s last run, down-the-track in fifth place behind imported stablemate, DIGITAL ONE, can be thrown out the window as a field-filler, erasing concerns bettors might have had after watching the Northern Giant-Heart of Gold filly trail in next-to-last at seven furlongs.
Reporting in a tongue tie after easily dismissing stablemate FASTNFURIOUSLINKS at four and a half furlongs without the equipment, COMEHOMETOME hardly raised a gallop in the six-horse field. DIGITAL ONE outclassed FASTNFURIOUSLINKS, who seemingly turned the tables on COMEHOMETOME, all of 18 lengths.
Bred to get Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes distance, and longer, COMEHOMETOME’s dam is Heart of Gold, who won the grade-one Governor General’s Stakes at 10 furlongs as a five-year-old. An Elizabeth DaCosta home-bred, Heart of Gold hails from the Thornbird line, her dam being Wild Heart, who was a winner-producing You OK mare.
The pace of the race should set up the closers, COMEHOMETOME and Richard Azan’s BUTTERCUP, a dangerous contender, who could be anything in the making after springing a 27-1 upset on his stablemate, MATUSO, at seven furlongs on November 19.
TWO-LENGTH WIN
Tracking the pace into the lane with sparingly used Oneil Scott, BUTTERCUP literally pulled herself into contention along the rail and took over a furlong out. Scott only had to give the Conquest Cherimash – Shahar filly reminders close home for her to quicken in a two-length win ahead of BLU SENSATION and MATUSO, who went by in a photo for second.
Azan galloped BUTTERCUP from the gate, out the mile chute, last Thursday morning, watching her go through a mile in 1:45.0, in what appears her first serious workout. BUTTERCUP could be anything but COMEHOMETOME hardly raised a hair when getting off the mark, followed by Tuesday’s eye-catching workout, making her worth the nod in the Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes.
Reyan Lewis is back aboard the Jason DaCosta-trained COMEHOMETOME, replacing Robert Halledeen, who will partner speedy stablemate BANADURA in what will obviously be an attempt to unsettle rivals on the lead, especially Ian Parsard’s RUN JULIE RUN, a speedy grey, who blazed 1:06.2 for five and a half furlongs at exercise Tuesday morning.
