Brett makes move to Memphis 901 FC

MEMPHIS, Tennessee (CMC):

United Soccer League (USL) outfit, Memphis 901 FC announced on Thursday it had signed Jamaican forward Neco Brett to a multi-year deal.

The transfer, which is still subject to USL and United States Soccer Federation approval, sends Brett from the Birmingham Legion, another USL outfit, and continues the trend of English-speaking Caribbean players getting opportunities in the League.

“We are delighted to welcome Neco to Memphis,” 901 FC assistant sporting director Caleb Patterson-Sewell said. “Neco is a proven goalscorer at this level and brings a wealth of experience.

“Throughout our discussions, we learnt a lot more about Neco, his desire to win a championship, and what he brings in terms of mentality. We are getting a driven player looking for another big season and we are delighted it is with us.”

Brett ranks third on the USL Championship all-time scoring list with 85 goals in more than 200 appearaneces.

The 32-year-old put away 12 goals in 32 matches for Birmingham last season, including a hat trick in undr 15 minutes on the pitch against FC Tulsa.

Brett began his professional career in Jamaica and played for the national under-17 and under-20 teams before playing for Robert Morris University on the American college circuit from 2012-2015, and he was selected in the second round of the 2016 MLS SuperDraft by the Portland Timbers.

Memphis 901 FC open the USL Championship regular season against Las Vegas Lights FC on March 9 at AutoZone Park.
