AT LAST year’s ISSA GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships (Champs), Abigail Wolfe gave Holy Childhood High School their first-ever win, claiming the Class 2 100-metre title.

She also ended fourth in the 200 metres to give her team 14 of the 16 points they finished with.

Fast-forward a year, and Wolfe will be competing at Champs in a different colour. Wolfe transferred to sixth form and will now be parading the maroon and gold of Wolmer’s Girls’ School.

Wolfe, who will compete in Class 1, is confident of doing for her new alma mater what she did for her old one.

And there are signs that that confidence is not unwarranted.

At the Queen’s/Grace Jackson Invitational, Wolfe, running into a heavy headwind, clocked 25.16 seconds to win the Girls’ Class 1 200 metres.

“I am very excited with my opening race for my new team despite not being pleased with the time because of the windy conditions,” said Wolfe.

According to Wolfe, attending Wolmer’s was a long-time dream of hers.

“From ever since I wanted to go to Wolmer’s, and getting the opportunity to do so, I am very happy because they have a very big track and field programme, and I am extremely confident that I can maintain my winning record despite competing in a higher class,” said Wolfe.

Her new teammates are embracing her as well.

“I must say that my new teammates are embracing me very well, and I like the vibes within the team, and I am really motivated,” Wolfe revealed.

“I will do my best to help Wolmer’s to continue being the top team in the Corporate Area and even to garner points to help them better their overall performance,” said Wolfe.

Wolfe plans to compete in both the 100 and 200 metres, but she has a favourite, which may surprise.

“Many people think the 200 metres is my best event, but for me, I like the 100 metres more as it much shorter and it allows me to go much faster.”
