Glasgow puts Champs 400 metres in his sights
AFTER A fourth-place finish in the Class One 400 metres at last year’s ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Championships (Champs), Kingston College’s (KC) Amal Glasgow is aiming to go all the way this time and help his team to retain their title at next month’s staging of the high school track and field showpiece.
At last Saturday’s Youngster Goldsmith Classics inside the National Stadium, Glasgow clocked a season’s best 47.25 seconds to take the Class One event, suggesting he is in pole position to do the same at Champs.
“I am pleased with my win and my form this season as I want to give my team quality points and a medal at Champs,” Glasgow said.
Glasgow, who, a week earlier, opened up with a 47.95 clocking at the Queen’s/Grace Jackson Invitational meet is hoping to stay healthy all season.
“I know that my coach is taking all the necessary steps to ensure I stay healthy as I really want to do well. I want to get a scholarship to an overseas university,” the St Vincent athlete said.
Though he is already clocking top times, he knows his task will not be easy, with the Jamaica College duo of Devonric Mack and Roshane Symister, as well as Maggotty High’s Zachary Wallace breathing down his neck for top spot at Champs.
“I know that it will not be an easy task for me as my main competitors are also in good form, but like a true Kingston College warrior, I am determined to fight to the end to ensure I do what is necessary to make my team continue winning,” Glasgow said.
