THE JAMAICA Scorpions have stumbled upon a boon in this season’s West Indies Championship with the announcement that the rest of their games will be held at Sabina Park in Kingston.

With scarcely any cricket being played at the ground, the Scorpions were pleasantly surprised when Cricket West Indies’ fixture list announced their first three rounds were to be played in Jamaica.

But when it rains it pours, the Scorpions will now benefit from a schedule change on account of the unavailability of the Diego Martin Sports Complex in Trinidad, which affects rounds four, five, six, and seven.

A release from CWI said the adjustments were part of its “ongoing effort to provide the best possible conditions for competitive, first-class cricket and to showcase the talent within the region”.

“CWI will continue to work with WIPA, our host boards and venues to ensure that conditions for play are the best on offer, given the constraints, and that in the end the championship will be decided by the contest between bat and ball,” said CWI Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe.

Jamaica are next in action on March 13 against the West Indies Academy, before facing the Leeward Islands Hurricanes on March 20.

The Jamaican unit will then get ready for an April 10 fixture against the Guyana Harpy Eagles, before rounding out their season with a game against Trinidad and Tobago Red Force on April 17.

Unlike in the first three rounds, there will be no games scheduled for Chedwin Park, with only the Scorpions set to remain home for their fixtures.
