Murray’s brace earns Waterhouse come-from-behind win
Colorado Murray scored two second-half goals as Waterhouse FC came from a goal down to beat defending champions Cavalier 2-1 in the feature match in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) at the Drewsland Mini Stadium yesterday.
Visitors Cavalier were first to get off the mark, with James Gallimore putting them in front four minutes before the half-time break.
However, Waterhouse, the league’s in-form team, kept pushing for the equaliser and were rewarded with a goal five minutes into the second half, thanks to Murray’s first of the evening.
Then with eight minutes remaining in regulation time, Murray, who was scoring his third goal in two matches, struck again to secure all three points for the home team.
The win pushed fifth-placed Waterhouse to 46 points, four clear of Cavalier in sixth place.
Meanwhile, in the result of the round, Chapelton Maroons humbled JPL leaders Montego Bay United 3-1 at Turners Oval, to keep themselves in the hunt for a top-six spot.
Damoi Whitfield put the Maroons ahead seven minutes into the second half, before veteran forward Levaughn Williams made it 2-0 in the 69th minute.
The home team would continue their onslaught and four minutes later Sean Leighton added a third to put the game beyond doubt.
Malachi Sterling netted Montego Bay’s consolation, pulling one back in time added on.
The result pushed Chapelton to 38 points, the same as seventh-placed Arnett Gardens. The Maroons are now four points adrift of Cavalier in sixth.
Montego Bay stayed on top of the league with 57 points, five more than Racing, who had to settle for a 0-0 draw with Tivoli Gardens at Ferdi Neita Park.
At the Dunbeholden Sports Complex, the home team squeezed out a narrow 1-0 win over Molynes United, to join Tivoli on 35 points and sit just three points off Chapelton.
Veteran midfielder Damion Binns scored the only goal of the game, netting in first-half stoppage time to give his team three valuable points.
